Cleared for Landing - Canvasbacks

"In the summer of 2004, my father decided to take a break from carving duck decoys and paint some original oil and watercolor paintings. He had been carving duck decoys and various other items for the purpose of production through the Shaker Prairie Shop for nearly 15 straight years and simply put, he felt as though he needed another perspective on his artwork at that juncture in his career. Nearly 30 years ago, he began his professional art career by making a series of "dioramas" as he called them (three-dimensional finely crafted shadow boxes that featured his original oil paintings with hand-carved, hand-painted birds and habitat set-out from the painting to create a three-dimensional effect) and sold them locally to a then growing list of collectors. The original oil painting featured here titled "Cleared for Landing - Canvasbacks" was created in the early months of 2005 and is the first original oil painting that I can remember my father painting in nearly 20+ years. This painting makes you want to look at it for long periods of time and it has made me dream that I am actually right in front of the canvasbacks as they prepare for their acrobatic landing.
